CIB funds C$55m investigation of High Frequency Rail proposal

The Canadian government is to conduct a two-year investigation to advance a VIA Rail Canada proposal for high frequency rail in the Quebec City-Toronto Corridor to inform future options. The proposed project involves the separating passenger and freight rail operations to create new trains on dedicated tracks between major centres. A Joint Project Team of Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) and VIA Rail Canada will be established and will benefit from C$55 million ($42 million) in CIB funding. The team will finalise legal and regulatory work, consult with stakeholders, examine land and track acquisition, and completing the technical, financial and commercial analysis.
