Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) has called for expressions of interest (EOI) from consultants for a feasibility study for two 40MW solar PV projects – one in Nampula and the other in Niassa province, Mozambique. EDM has secured site locations for both the plants, both in the vicinity of substations.

The work will include technical, environmental and social, legal and financial analysis. A maximum of six consultants will be shortlisted by Electricidade de Mozambique (EDM), to which an RFP will be issued. The last date to submit EOI documents to EDM is 11 November 2019.

In 2017, the Government of Mozambique received a €4 million ($4.46 million) grant from the European Union (EU) through AFD under the Promotion of Renewable Energy Auctions (PROLER) initiative to help the country conduct feasibility studies, design procurement structure and prepare bid documents for a procurement process for three solar PV projects and one wind power plant with 40 MW capacity each. EDM will use part of the proceeds to fund the feasibility studies. The projects are the second and third PV projects under the PROLER programme.
