Ofgem makes NIC funding awards
Ofgem has published the results of 2019 applications for Network Innovation Competition (NIC) funding. The annual programme aims to award large-scale innovation projects that move UK energy networks towards a low carbon future. Funding of £20 million was available for gas projects and £70 million for electricity. One gas submission and four electricity submissions were received and amounted to £62.9 million of the £90 million of available funding.
The successful submissions were H21 Phase 2 from Northern Gas Networks (£6.8 million); DC Share from Western Power Distribution (£4.72 million); and Resilience as a Service from Scottish and Southern Energy Networks (£9.7 million). Constellation from UK Power Networks (£7.5 million) and FreeVE from Western Power Distribution (£13.3 million) were unsuccessful in their attempt to secure funding.
