The African Development Bank has granted €23.4 million for the development of the port of Bujumbura in Burundi.

Of the amount, €17.3 million will be provided by the African Development Fund and €6.1 million will come from the Transition Support Facility.

The funds will help finance Phase 1 of the Lake Tanganyika Transport Corridor Development Project, which involves the renovation of the port of Bujumbura. The project will increase the capacity and efficiency of the port of Bujumbura and improve regional connectivity. It will develop regional trade along the integrated Lake Tanganyika corridor by interconnecting it with existing regional trade corridors.

The project, co-financed by the Government of Burundi and the African Development Bank, also benefits from a €19.7 million grant from the European Union, to be signed shortly.
