IDA lends $315m for Cote d’Ivoire waste management project
The International Development Association, part of the World Bank Group, has approved a loan of about $315 million to the Cote d’Ivoire government to finance its Urban Resilience and Solid Waste Management Project.
The project is divided into three segments. The first is allocated $150 million and will focus on mitigating the negative impacts of recurrent floods through measures including urban drainage and associated roadwork’s, and nature-based solutions for erosion, and landslide control and coastal protection.
The second segment is the improvement of the system of collection and disposal of solid waste and is allocated $120 million. It will involve the strengthening of the city’s solid waste collection and treatment/valorization and disposal capacities in the District of Abidjan and selected inter-communal groups of secondary cities through the construction of new solid waste treatment/valorization and disposal facilities, construction of consolidation points, and transfer centres.
The third segment, allocated $30 million, is capacity building and digital technologies for urban resilience. It will involve activities such as professional training on solid waste management and valorization of 3-4 recycling value chains e.g. carton, engravings, and construction waste.
