The World Bank's International Development Association has approved a $385 million loan to finance an electricity interconnection project between Cameroon and Chad.

A 225kV high-voltage link will be built to connect Maroua, in Cameroon, and Bongor, Guelendeng, and Ndjamena in Chad. The total length of the high-voltage lines to be built is approximately 1,024km (786km in Cameroon and 238km in Chad).

The project will enable electricity trade between Cameroon and Chad and serve to increase access to electricity in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad. The total length of the high-voltage lines to be built is about 1,024km (786km in Cameroon and 238km in Chad).

Medium-voltage high-voltage transformer stations will also be built along the corridors to enable the establishment of distribution networks for rural electrification.
