The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has agreed financing of $40.1 million to Nicaragua to help fund the country's Electric Transmission System Expansion Program. The financing will have a 15-year term with a three-year grace period and an indicative interest rate of Libor sixmonths plus 225 basis points.

The project will enable the installation of 68.15km of transmission lines, a new substation, an expanded substation, the modernization of the National Load Dispatch Center, and an increase in the energy supply of 71,766.0MWh.

Specifically, it involves the construction of the Bluefields Substation in 138Kv; La Esperanza - Bluefields Transmission Line in 138Kv; and expansion of La Esperanza Substation. It also includes the expansion of the operational capacity of the National Load Dispatch Center. The latter plans to modernize the infrastructure of the CNDC and guarantee quality and reliable services for a better use of the available energy sources, as well as the reduction of losses in the system, and encourage more investment in renewable energy generation that contributes to the reduction of the price of energy and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The initiative will also be executed by Empresa Nacional de Transmisión Eléctrica.
