The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a JPY9.9 billion (about $89.4 million) loan deal with Companhia de Eletricidade do Estado da Bahia, which is operating a power distribution business in Bahia state, northeast Brazil.

The JICA funds will be used for the construction of power distribution facilities, including new grid-connection of households in the state. The project is co-financed by MUFG Bank and Brazilian development bank BNDES. This loan is JICA’s first co-financing with MUFG, which serves as a lead arranger of this transaction.
