Togo has signed two agreements in the energy sector for a total amount of XOF75.2 billion (€137.8 million).

The first agreement signed with L'Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) concerns a loan of XOF49 billion (€75 million) for the implementation of the Programme for the Extension of the Electricity Network in Togo’s Urban Centres. The project aims to electrify 53 localities, with the Togolese government planning to rehabilitate and extend the national electricity grid in five regions through the installation of 48km of medium voltage network. The programme also includes the installation of 226 new electricity transformers.

In addition to AFD, the project is also supported by the European Union and German development bank KfW. The Togolese government has also committed to a public-private partnership with France-based Sunna Design. The company plans to install 50,000 solar street lamps in several Togolese councils, at a cost of XOF26.2 million, all financed by Paris.
