The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has approved two non-reimbursable technical cooperation grants for Panama. The grants are for both the institutional, regulatory and technical strengthening of the public-private partnership system, and for the design of the first transportation infrastructure project in the country under a PPP scheme.

CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, stated that the first operation will increase the state's execution capacity in project and program investment, as well as in the preparation of a series of studies, manuals, guidelines and/or guides to facilitate PPP project planning in Panama.

He also mentioned that Panama's Ministry of Public Works appointed CABEI as a specialized advisor in relation to the North David Corridor PPP Project Development, which consists of the construction, equipment, start-up, operation and long-term maintenance of an alternative highway system that seeks to alleviate the heavy traffic of cars and cargo vehicles and reduce the pollution generated by this vehicle traffic, which currently circulates through the City of David.

The North David Corridor project comprises a highway of about 16km in length, as a bypass of the Pan-American Highway to the City of David, in the West of Panama.
