Uxolo 2023 Development Finance Report: Reflecting the development finance reality

Reporter at Uxolo
Region:
Middle East & Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe
Experience is as influential a shaper of development finance policy as data, and this year's edition of Uxolo's Development Finance Report carries more canvassed responses from those on the frontline of development finance than any report to date.

The fourth edition of the Uxolo annual report is out, providing an in-depth look at development finance activity and trends over the last twelve months – and unlike many development finance reports, Uxolo’s is not just data driven.

The report is again based on survey responses gathered from key industry institutions in the period September to November 2023. Complemented by semi-structured interviews with industry players, the report is a reflection of the themes and ideas shaping the world of development finance as voiced by those working on the frontline.

Why read the report?

If you want to know how private capital mobilisation in development finance has fared and will fare – read the report.

If you want to know the realities of ECA, DFI and no-profit blended finance prospects – read the report.

If you want to know development finance market sentiment on the impact of rising interest rates and inflation – read the report

If you want to know the biggest sources of concern in development finance over the next year – read the report.

If you want to know sentiment on what constitute the greatest opportunities in development finance over the next year – read the report.

If you want to know what sectors – climate finance, renewable energy, agriculture & food chain, social infrastructure etc – will be the biggest focus for development finance in the coming year – read the report.

If you want to know pretty much anything and everything that is driving the development of new MDB/DFI financial product and strategy – read the report.

And finally, if you believe there is no science behind phasing out fossil fuels – you are clearly living on a different planet so don't read the report.

Because the report includes the human factor (opinion shaped by experience) and is not just data driven there are a few surprises – for example only 35% of respondents report an increase in collaboration with the private sector on recent projects, at a time when blended finance is a buzzword at the various high-profile global development and energy transition gatherings. Furthermore, with trillions of dollars of investment required in transition energy projects to meet 2050 Net Zero targets, why is a dearth of viable projects seen as the greatest hurdle to pulling in more private capital to developing markets?

But the human factor is as much of a policy shaper as data – as the results of any COP attest to. So dive into the Uxolo Development Finance Report 2023 for a deeper understanding of the drivers behind the global development finance engine – you will be surprised, and uniquely informed.
