The World Bank has issued a report on Private Participation in Infrastructure (PPI) amongst low- and middle-income countries from 2013-2017.

In 2017, investments in IDA countries were notable for totalling $7.9 billion across 35 projects in 17 countries compared to the $2.9 billion invested the previous year for 18 projects. Myanmar, Lao PDR, and Cambodia accounted for 60% of the total in 2017.

Honduras, Bangladesh, and Senegal received a consistent investment over the period and together have the highest number of projects with PPI investments. Ghana had the highest level of cumulative investment over five years and was equivalent to one-fifth of the IDA totals.

Energy generation has been the key driver of PPI investments with renewable energy accounting for 70% of all power projects by 2017.
