US awards $1.5bn BUILD grants to transport projects
The US Department of Transportation has awarded $1.5 billion in discretionary grants to 91 new transport projects across the country. The Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grants for road, rail, transit and port projects are part of a $5 billion distribution of funding over nine competition rounds.
Over $1 billion is allocated to 60 road projects with a further $165 million for rail and $146 million for 14 port projects.
Port-related grants include $6.5 million for the Seagirt Marine Terminal Berth 3 Modernization Project at the Port of Baltimore; $23 million for the Lower Yukon River Regional Port and Road Renovation Project in Emmonak, Alaska; $20 million for the SEMO Port Loop Track Terminal Project in Missouri; $21 million for the City of Sault Ste. Marie towards Michigan's Carbide Dock Port Rehabilitation and Truck Route Reconstruction; $7.5 million for wharf improvements at the Market Street Marine Terminal in Portsmouth, New Hampshire; $20 million for the Columbia River Barge Terminal Rail Access project for the Port of Morrow, Oregon; $15 million for upgrades to the Virginia Port Authority's Inland Port Terminal; $6 million for rail access improvements at the Port of Muskogee, Oklahoma; and $20 million for Oregon's Coos Bay Rail Line.
