Montenegro’s state power utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) has signed a €33 million loan with KfW for Phase II of a project to overhaul and modernise the Perucica hydropower plant. The second phase will cover the reconstruction and modernisation of hydromechanical and electrical equipment at three of the plant’s seven units – A5, A6, and A7 – and other equipment, and the reconstruction of the Opacica and Mostanica canals.

Tendering for the hydromechanical and electrical equipment element will be launched in early 2020, and the works are planned to start in the early fall of 2020. A €700,000 portion of the loan will be used to finance the tender for a €23 million project to build a new A8 unit at the plant. The 58.5MW unit would increase Perucica’s overall installed capacity from 307MW to 365.5MW.
