EBRD loan to upgrade water and wastewater services in Romania
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has approved a €25 million loan for a project to improve water and wastewater services and the reduction of water losses in the Romanian counties of Dolj and Gorj.
The bank is providing a Romanian lei equivalent loan to the regional operator of water and wastewater utility Compania de Apa Oltenia. The EBRD contribution is co-financing, together with EU Cohesion Funds, the water operator’s €374.62 million regional investment programme.
The financing will fund an extension and rehabilitation of the company’s water and wastewater services and will benefit a total of 400,000 people. More than 100,000 people will be connected to the wastewater network for the first time. The financing will also enable a water efficiency programme which aims to reduce water losses by more than 3.2 million m3 per year.
