The Solomon Islands secures $200m for Tina River hydro PPP

The Solomon Island government has secured $200 million to build the Tina River Hydropower project 20km outside the capital of Honiara. The dam, reservoir and 15MW generation system will be operated as the country's first ever PPP. The agreement between the government and the Korean Water Corporation will see a 70% reduction in the nation's reliance on imported diesel. The project is being financed by a consortium of international development funds, that includes Australian AID, the New Zealand Foreign Aid, the International Finance Corporation and the Green Climate Fund. The Australian Government has contributed $28.8 million to the project with $10.4 million supporting the early-stage preparatory work and $18.4 million to fund the construction of access roads to the dam location.
