Senegal is expected to sign a DFI-backed loan to finance the $295 million Senegal Municipal Solid Waste Management (SWM) project, which spans several regions of the West African state.

SWM will increase access to waste collection and disposal services in selected Senegalese municipalities. The World Bank has approved a $125 million loan facility for the project and the Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) are also in the frame but have yet to finalise their debt tickets. SWM will also be partially funded by the Senegalese government.

The World Bank contribution is sourced from IDA credit ($12.16 million) and Scale-Up Facility Credit ($112.84 million). The loans have tenors ranging from 30-38 years, inclusive of 6 to 9-year grace periods.
