AIIB approves loans for Uzbek water supply and sewage project
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a sovereign financing package to back a water supply and sewage scheme in central Uzbekistan.
The first phase of the project, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services and includes well fields and intakes, main water lines and treatment facilities, pumping stations and distribution networks, and the extension of the sewage network in Bukhara City, is part of a nearly $675 million government effort to improve water supply sanitation in the region.
The AIIB will provide a $385.12 million loan for phase one of the project and a $200 million for the second phase (set to impact 620,000 people), while the Uzbekistan Government will put up $52.5 million and $36 million respectively.
