The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved an undisclosed sum to finance the development of the 30MW Golfe du Lion floating wind project offshore France.

The demonstration floating wind farm will feature three V164 MHI Vestas 10MW wind turbines supported by Principle Power’s WindFloat semi-submersible floating foundations. The turbines will be installed over 16km off the coast of the Leucate-Le Barcarès area in the Mediterranean Sea in water depths of 65m to 80m

The project is being developed by Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion, a consortium comprising Engie, EDP Renewables, and Caisse des Depots. The commissioning of the wind farm is scheduled for 2022.
