Construction of Indonesian telecom satellite to start this month
Construction of the $550 million Indonesian telecommunications satellite project - called Satellite of Republic of Indonesia - is set to start this month, Pasifik Satelit Nusantara announced.
French-Italian company Thales Alenia Space is designing and manufacturing the satellite, which is being financed by Korea Development Bank, HSBC, and Banco Santander.
The project began in 2019 when Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology selected domestic satellite operator Pasifik Satelit Nusantara to deploy and operate the telecommunications satellite, and Thales was awarded the contract to design and build.
The multifunction Ka-band satellite will have a capacity of 150Gbps, using Very High Throughput Satellite technology. A portion of the investment will be funded by the Pasifik Satelit Nusantara consortium’s capital.
