Brazilian development bank BNDES has approved an up-to BRL568 million ($107 million) loan to expand EDP Renovaveis's Jerusalem wind complex to 180.6MW.

The financing will be given to six special purpose entities, namely Centrais Eolicas Jerusalem I through VI. EDPR's Brazilian arm will use the loan to install six wind parks with 43 wind turbines in total, including their respective transmission systems. The new plants will be located in the municipalities of Lajes, Pedro Avelino and Pedra Preta in Rio Grande do Norte state.

With the addition of the new wind turbines, EDPR expects the wind complex to be able to generate enough clean power to meet the demand of 270,000 local homes.
