JICA to loan $283m for Chennai's fourth desalination plant

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed a $283 million loan to build a seawater desalination plant in Chennai, India. The plant will be Chennai's fourth, and the project is expected to comprise a 400,000 m3/d facility and a transmission network. It will be completed by March 2025.

The loan is one of five ODA loans to be provided by JICA to India worth a total of $1.77 billion. The other projects to receive funds include the Mumbai Metro Line 3 project and the installation of Chennai Metropolitan Area Intelligent Transport Systems.
