IFC issues first sterling green bond, raising £350m
The International Finance Corporation has issued its first sterling green bond, raising £350 million to fight climate change.
It represents IFC's first sterling-denominated benchmark in five years and is the first green bond to be issued by a multilateral development bank in the sterling market since 2015. UK-based investors accounted for 52% of the final book.
The proceeds of the bond will go to financing IFC investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other areas that reduce greenhouse emissions globally.
