Queensland launches its own renewable energy company

The government of Queensland has launched a renewable energy generating company as recommended by an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission report into the electricity sector. The two existing state-owned generators – CS Energy and Stanwell Corporation – are coal and gas companies.

CleanCo will receive an initial A$250 million ($182 million) grant to develop 1GW of renewable energy and will begin trading electricity mid-next year.
